1. About this policy
This Cookie Policy explains how Rock Box Records Limited (“we”, “us” or “our”), trading as The Rock Box and The Rock Box Record Store, uses cookies and similar technologies on https://staging.rockbox.co.uk. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains in more detail how we handle personal information.
2. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device by websites that you visit. They are widely used to make websites work, to make them work more efficiently, and to provide information to the owners of the site. Other similar technologies – such as web beacons, pixel tags, and local storage – work in a similar way and are covered by this policy.
3. The legal basis for our use of cookies
UK law (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003, as amended) requires us to:
- Obtain your consent before placing non-essential cookies on your device
- Tell you clearly what cookies we use and what they do
- Allow you to withdraw your consent at any time
We obtain your consent through the cookie banner that appears when you first visit our website. You can change your choices at any time by clicking the “Cookie Settings” link in the footer of any page.
Cookies that are strictly necessary for the operation of the website (for example, remembering what is in your shopping cart) do not require your consent under PECR.
4. Our cookie categories
We group cookies into four categories:
4.1 Necessary cookies
These cookies are essential for the website to function. They include cookies that remember what is in your shopping cart, that keep you logged in if you have an account, and that protect the site from spam and abuse. These cookies do not require your consent and cannot be switched off.
| Cookie | Provider | Duration | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
woocommerce_items_in_cart | rockbox.co.uk | Session | Records whether there are items in your shopping cart. |
woocommerce_cart_hash | rockbox.co.uk | Session | Detects when your cart contents change. |
wp_woocommerce_session_* | rockbox.co.uk | 2 days | Identifies your shopping session so we can retrieve your cart. |
cookieyes-* | CookieYes | 1 year | Records your cookie consent choices and provides our cookie banner. |
VISITOR_PRIVACY_METADATA | YouTube (Google) | 6 months | Set by YouTube to store the user’s cookie consent state for the current domain. |
Our bot-protection service, Cloudflare Turnstile, helps us tell humans from automated traffic. It is designed to be privacy-friendly and does not set a persistent tracking cookie in normal use.
4.2 Functional cookies
These cookies enable additional features such as embedded video and remembering whether you have been shown certain prompts. They require your consent.
| Cookie | Provider | Duration | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
ytidb::LAST_RESULT_ENTRY_KEY | YouTube (Google) | Persistent | Used by YouTube to remember the last item you clicked in a search result, to improve future suggestions. |
VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE | YouTube (Google) | 6 months | Used by YouTube to measure bandwidth and determine which version of the YouTube player to show. |
mailerlite_forms_shown_* | MailerLite | 1 month | Records that you have been shown a newsletter sign-up form so we do not repeatedly display it. |
4.3 Analytics cookies
We use Matomo for website analytics. Matomo is configured to run without cookies, so it does not place any analytics cookies on your device. The cookies listed below relate to traffic-source attribution and embedded video, not to Matomo. These cookies help us understand how visitors use the website so we can improve it. They require your consent.
| Cookie | Provider | Duration | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
sbjs_* (several) | Sourcebuster (first-party) | Session to persistent | Records the source of your visit (e.g. search engine, referrer, campaign) for our internal traffic analysis. |
YSC | YouTube (Google) | Session | Tracks views of embedded YouTube videos. |
4.4 Tracking cookies set by third-party content
We do not run our own advertising campaigns and no longer use Google Analytics or Google Ads. Our website does include embedded YouTube videos, and YouTube may set the cookies below when that content loads. They require your consent.
| Cookie | Provider | Duration | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
__Secure-ROLLOUT_TOKEN | YouTube (Google) | 6 months | Manages staged feature rollouts for embedded YouTube content. |
__Secure-YEC | YouTube (Google) | Persistent | Stores user preferences and supports YouTube video playback. |
__Secure-YNID | YouTube (Google) | 6 months | Used by YouTube to support user security and prevent fraud, particularly during login. |
5. Managing your cookie preferences
5.1 Our cookie banner
You can change your cookie preferences at any time by clicking the Cookie Settings link in the footer of any page on our website. This will reopen the cookie banner and allow you to change or withdraw your consent.
If you decline non-essential cookies, the website will still work, but embedded YouTube videos may not play.
Our own analytics (Matomo) does not use cookies and is unaffected by your cookie choices; it is covered by our Privacy Policy under legitimate interests.
5.2 Opting out of third-party tracking
The only third-party content on our website that may set tracking cookies is embedded YouTube videos. When these load, YouTube (owned by Google) may set cookies that can feed into Google’s wider advertising and personalisation systems. You can opt out of personalised advertising across the internet through:
- UK / EU consumer choice portal: https://www.youronlinechoices.com/
- Google Ad Settings: https://adssettings.google.com/
5.3 Controlling cookies through your browser
You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers let you refuse all cookies, accept only certain cookies, or delete cookies when you close the browser. The links below explain how to do this in the main browsers:

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, for example if we change the cookies we use or if the law changes. If we make a material change, we will notify you on the website. We will update the “Effective date” at the top of this policy when we make changes.
